I’ve been using a very simple combination of organic inputs that has produced absolutely stunning results. What started with me growing a handful of cherry tomatoes in the back yard has now become a productive kitchen garden. Big slicing tomatoes, huge onions, blocky bell peppers, handfuls of fresh herbs and other hefty vegetables now grow thanks to a unique combination of EASY inputs. Here is my secret organic fertilizer mix for huge garden veggies:
Secret Organic Fertilizer Mix for Huge Garden Veggies
This mix requires 5 total ingredients used in different ratios at different times. I use a blend of 3 ingredients when vegetable plants are young and then a different blend when the vegetable plants are flowering and to promote growth in cutting flowers. I promise it is easy!

Organic Liquid Fish Fertilizer
>> If you want fish & kelp together in one liquid and a smaller bottle, I have used Trident’s Pride
Liquid CalMag or Liquid Organic CalMag
Dr. Earth brand Organic Bloom & Bud Booster
Organic Langbeinite Powder (potassium magnesium sulfate, a natural mineral containing K, Mg & Sulfur)
My secret recipe uses 3 ingredients in two different combinations: one when the plant is young and growing and a different combination of 3 when the plant is flowering.
Simple, Easy, Pour-and-Go Fertilizer
Both fertilizer recipes mix right inside the watering can. Simply pour in the right amount for each of the ingredients, add water, and start foliar feeding in mere seconds. Just a quick splash on the leaves of each vegetable or blooming flower is all that is needed. The best part is the natural, diluted organic compounds in water cannot burn your plants but they provide visible, explosive growth.
Recipe #1 for Explosive Growth:
Fish + Kelp + CalMag Boosts Plant Growth First
This combination is the “workhorse” of the blend. I have actually used these 3 alone for years to get phenomenal garden vegetable growth with no other inputs or fertilizers – not even the bloom booster recipe below. This mix by itself makes for huge onions, heavily loaded tomato vines and hefty potatoes. But if you want absolutely incredible tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other fruits, use the bloom booster when each plant begins to flower:
Recipe #2 for Even Heavier Flowering:
Bloom booster + Langbeinite + CalMag Encourages Increased Flowering
Flowers turn into fruit. More flowers means more fruit which can mean a bumper harvest from fewer plants for you. Some of your plants, like tomatoes and peppers, benefit from a switch-up where this combination of 3 ingredients encourages the plant to bloom like crazy. Flowers appear large and strong, setting tons of fruit. Bloom Booster, langbeinite and CalMag encourage heavy flowering when used as a weekly or twice weekly foliar feed at the time the plant begins blooming and throughout the rest of the growing season.
How the Organic Fertilizer Recipe Was Born
The recipe for this mix is the combining of organic fertilizers suggested to me by Master Gardeners who taught classes in my area in 2019 and a vegetable grower at our local farmer’s market. The tips and hints they have provided, plus some experimenting myself, have all gone into crafting this recipe that is simple but produces incredible results!
The Farmer’s Market Secret is Out!
The most successful farmer’s market growers are using natural organic inputs like these to get their beautiful colored, large-sized produce. Now you’ll have the same incredible quality veggies coming from your own back yard, bursting with flavor, loaded with minerals and bio-available nutrition your body can use.
Natural Deer Deterrent
The liquid fish organic fertilizer in the growth blend smells fishy and keeps deer away from your garden veggies and any annuals, flowers, or shrubs you use it on. (It helps boost growth in all plants.) The effect lasts about 3 days but generally needs to be reapplied on day 3 to keep the plant protected from being nibbled. It also needs to be re-applied after a rain or heavy water sprinkling to continue to deter deer.
Give this Organic Fertilizer a Try on Your Garden Veggies for One Season
If you want to try the growth blend on a budget, opt for the quart of Trident’s Pride liquid fish + kelp and the smallest half-pint size CalMag bottle. Use 2 Tablespoons of the Trident’s Pride and 1/2 teaspoon CalMag in a 2 gallon watering can of water to foliar feed plants. This makes a gentle foliar feed that is less potent than what package directions suggest but your plants get everything they need and the bottles last longer! These two small bottles will make 32 total applications or about 10 weeks of fertilizing if you apply 3 times per week for a garden that only needs one watering can full (about 500 square feet). Enjoy your delicious produce!
