Run Building Tips:

>>> Your run must have a covering or roof if you want to stop hawks from killing your chickens. A highly breathable roof can be made of chicken wire, hardware cloth or 2×4 inch no-climb fencing wire. Shade cloth can be added over the roof if needed. Sheet metal roofing may also be used if you need better sun and weather protection.

>>> You’ll always wish you had a bigger run! If you’re wondering what size to build, go for one with more ground space. The hens will appreciate the extra space and any smells will be reduced.

>>> Chickens need more ground space than they need vertical height. You can alter build plans to sit below your fence line but still give your hens a good long length of ground space to scratch and peck around in!

>>> If you’d like a low-odor coop & run, opt for 10 square feet of run space per bird.

You Can Do This!

DIY Building Plans are usually written for Beginner builders with little experience. Be sure to check the description to see what tools are required and what the build level is. We highly suggest purchasing a rafter square, even if your build plans don’t mention it as one of the tools required, because it will make drawing straight or angled lines for cuts so much easier! We own this one and have used it on every single build project for our chicken coops, quail pens, and garden fencing! (Afflink)
