Here is how to use a piece of 2×4 scrap wood to ensure you get a perfect impression every time when stamping your various sized egg cartons! All stamps shown are available for sale in my website shop.
directions for Stamping Egg Cartons
Raid the scrap wood pile and grab some 2×4 pieces to create a quick tool that will make your stamping so much easier! I opted for plain – not pressure treated – leftovers. Simply cut the 2×4 scrap to size using a saw, sand it if desired and place it under the lid of your open carton to provide a sturdy stamping surface. Below we’ve got cut sizes listed for every carton size so you’re guaranteed to end up with a piece that fits.
Use a 9 inch long 2×4 Scrap Piece for Most 1 Dozen Sized Cartons
Open the carton flat so the front tab holes are facing your body and the carton top is facing up as shown. Place the 2×4 wood block under the lid, creating a firm, table-like surface on which to stamp. Your impressions will come out crisp and clear using this trick!
Use a 4 inch long 2×4 scrap for Split Dozen Cartons
Use a 3.7 inch (or 9.5 cm) block for the iMagic Brand Cartons
Quail Cartons Require custom Sized Scraps
Make a Block for Other Carton Sizes:
Use the Right Size Ink Pad
I adore this jumbo 5×7 inch ink pad! I purchased the gray color, which is the dark charcoal gray pad and stamp impression shown in the image below. (Affiliate link.)
Cleaning Your Stamp
It is important to clean your stamp to prolong the life of the genuine rubber and to make storage less messy. Moisten a paper towel lightly with any concentration of rubbing alcohol and gently remove ink residue from the rubber surface. Some small amount of ink may be impregnated and not wipe away, which is expected – you do not need to forcefully scrub the stamp. Just clear off the surface ink, let air dry and then store as desired.
Hopefully these tips and accompanying images make stamping your egg cartons easier!
